Maureen Andary, Executive Director

Maureen is an invested member of the Takoma Park community with 15 years of experience in private and group music education (guitar, ukulele), vocal and instrumental performance & songwriting (The Sweater Set & Cantor work), and spent the last 10 years in Real Estate sales in Montgomery County, & Upper NW DC. Real estate you ask!? How is that relevant? The School of Musical Traditions provides very valuable real estate - space to learn, connect, & grow in the very center of our favorite town, Takoma Park. In real estate she has learned how to be a tough negotiator & client advocate, the ins and outs of contract writing, customer service & customer mentality, how to design pleasing, welcoming spaces, & how to market space. Her focus for her 1st year at SMT are improving the space and its visibility and increasing the services to both students & teachers. She is thrilled to be joining the administrative team in a leadership role and is ready to make a difference for everyone.

With her award winning duo, The Sweater Set with Sara Curtin, she has won five Washington Area Music Awards, served as an Artist-in-Residence at the Strathmore Center for the Performing Arts, and has performed at such distinguished venues as the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Mansion at Strathmore, The Birchmere, and Lincoln Center. She has won several grant awards for her songwriting and performance including 202, 2023, 2024 Fellowships with the DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities.

Maureen has been a faculty member and performer at the 2013, 2014, 2017, and 2019 Strathmore Ukefest teaching Note Reading for Ukulele, Pop arrangement, Voice, and Novices alongside Grammy Winners Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer.

In addition to being a performer & music educator Maureen has worked extensively as an events producer and logistical coordinator including stints at Bryant Park Corporation in Midtown Manhattan, the DC Jazz Festival, and local film production companies and political advance teams in Washington, DC. Adding to her dynamic skill set, in her real estate context, she is particularly passionate about helping musicians and self employed creatives buy homes in the greater Washington area to secure their future wealth and well being.
