Saturday, March 19, 1:00 – 3:00 PM EST
This seminar will feature a two-part presentation on modern Celtic percussion and Celtic culture by Scott Morrison.
Part 1: Celtic Culture and History
A swing through Celtic history with some commentary on the modern day Cèilidh culture of Ireland and Scotland and how it interacts and informs the music of modern day Celtic culture. Language, poetry, maps, and Gaelic songs will be mixed into this multi-media presentation.
Part 2: Celtic Percussion
What that is and how it fits into the overall framework seen in Part 1. Included in this part will be: a brief introduction to the primary Celtic melodic instruments from Ireland and Scotland with some live performance/demonstrations, an introduction to the Celtic percussion instruments and how they work and sound including a VERY brief history of each, and some live performances and demonstrations of each of them. Also, a question-answer session will be built into the end of the presentation.
