with Jason Mullinax Saturday May 8,  1:00 — 3:00 PM Eastern Just because you’re stuck at home doesn’t mean you still can’t have fun making music with things lying around the house! In this interactive online course, percussionist and music educator Jason Mullinax will teach students how to write their own rhythms that they can then play on everyday household objects. He will demonstrate how almost anything can become a musical instrument if you apply a bit of creativity. All experience levels and ages welcome, and no previous musical background required. $60 for the 2-hour class

with Scott Morrison May 15, 22, June 5, 12, 11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon, Eastern  This 4 week class for beginners will introduce students to the world of the bodhran. Students will learn to play reels and jigs, as well as how to take care of the instrument. Ultimately, students gain enough skills to play along in a simulated session, with Scott leading on tin whistle. Scott’s extensive expertise in Scottish and Irish culture shines through in the larger historical context he provides alongside instrumental instruction. $125 for 4 classes

(or, a musical Hurrah! for the end of the school year) with Mari Carlson Sunday, May 16, 12:00 – 1:30 PM Eastern Time Students will learn a fiddle tune, a polska called “Fin er du”, in honor of syttende mai (May 17), Norwegian Independence Day. The tune is Swedish but there are words Mari will sing in Norwegian. Sweden and Norway both celebrate the end of school on this holiday. We will start by getting used to the polska rhythm by moving to the beat, then we’ll add the bowing pattern, then the notes.
